Simulated Terror Drill Held Throughout Boston

(CBS4) BOSTON Massachusetts is making great efforts to prepare for the worst in the event of a terrorist attack. Simulated anti-terrorism drills were held on Sunday at various locations throughout Boston.  The event is called “Operation Poseidon.”   Part of the drill kicked off at the CambridgeSide Galleria during the early morning hours. This exercise simulates the discovery of a terrorist cell in Everett, a threat on the LNG facility in Everett, multiple explosions at the mall and secondary devices at the Lechmere T Station.  Organizers say normally drills focus on one incident, but Sunday’s exercise took it a step further.  “I think it’s an excellent example of how we expand these exercises in terms of not only one incident but multi incidents,” said Carlo Boccia of Metro Boston Homeland Security. The U.S. Coast Guard also took part in the drill patrolling Boston Harbor, which was also targeted by the terrorists in the scenario.  According to officials, the drill is being used to bring key agencies together, determine if the state would be prepared for a terrorist attack and find where the state and federal emergency workers need improvement.   More than 50 federal, state and local agencies and 150 volunteers took part in the drill.
